FAQ & Edge Types

Are granite countertops expensive?
Not really! The cost of granite starts at $40 per square foot. This cost is significantly less than the cost of solid surface materials.

Does granite or marble stain?
In general, no and especially not if the stone is sealed properly. All stone is porous to some degree, but neither granite nor marble has an extremely high porosity level. However, some unsealed colors will show moisture spots if exposed for long periods of time. For example, a puddle of water left on a counter for 30 minutes or more will show moisture on an unsealed stone until the spot completely dries.

Will my stone look like the samples on the website?
The samples you see have been scanned and saved with digital software. Variations in computer systems, monitors and software may cause the sample colors to vary. In addition, no two pieces of granite or marble are exactly the same. These stones are a natural material with variations in color, tone, granularity, pattern, etc., being a source of its natural beauty.

Can you easily scratch granite or marble?
Granite can only be scratched with specially sharpened tools designed to work with granite (such as tungsten and diamond bit tools). Proper sealing also greatly assists in preventing scratches. Polished marble is most susceptible to scratches and should not be used in kitchens. However, polished marble works very well in bathroom environments.

Will granite or marble chip or crack?
It would be highly unusual for either granite or marble to chip or crack after installation is completed. Both granite and marble are very durable to normal use.

Does the use of granite or marble result in seams?
Yes. Granite and marble are distributed in rectangular pieces that require the creation of seams during installation. The visibility of seams depends on the granularity, color and pattern utilized. A small grain or a dark color will result in less visible seams. We have found that most customers feel the beauty and richness of the stones far outweighs any concerns about the seams.

Does heat affect granite?
No. You can’t burn it with ordinary use. You can take a hot pan out of the oven and set it directly on the granite. It’s a natural trivet.

How do you take care of granite or marble?
This really depends on the stone. Please call us and we will properly advise you.
